This past Wednesday night I got the chance to have a parent’s dream come true. It was late and I was almost asleep when my oldest son, Davin called me.

I picked up quickly because my three sons and others were at our annual youth camp. When I answered he could barely talk as he was overcome by emotion.

Within a few minutes, I realized he was overwhelmed by the presence of God. He had been touched by Jesus along with hundreds of other teens and their worlds would never be the same.

He told me God shared with him he was called to be a pastor and had heard that five different times within two days. He said, “It feels good to know what I’m going to do.”

I asked him why the emotion and he was overwhelmed again sharing that he felt God and that he was so real to him. He also shared how God used him with two other students, who would be water baptized the next day.

As I lay on my bed talking to him, I was stunned, blessed, processing, and wishing I could hold that moment in place forever. It was a parent’s dream and I got to live it.

I believe you will too!

No matter where your family is or where your kids are, God can do miracles in them.
It’s my desire to inspire you to reach for what Jesus has in your family and believe that He’s not done with you yet. He’s a healer and family maker. God has your family on his mind.

I also believe that everything rises and falls on leadership. We must do our part, so God can do His part. Through being imperfect God can work and through being humble God will move.

For our families, God has a purpose and a plan. His desire is a generational faith that impacts generations beyond our lifetime and each member of our families He’s equipped for something great.

“The children of your people will live in security. Their children’s children will thrive in your presence.”Psalms‬ ‭102‬:‭28‬

Notice God wants our kids to thrive in His presence. Meaning they have a living connection to Him. One that’s personal, connected, and real.

Our families can live in security under His protection and promises and furthermore, we can see the plan of God come to fruition.

Our faith also must be generational because that’s how this thing started.

“I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.”Exodus‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬

In this verse when God is speaking to Moses through the burning bush, He references himself as in three family generations. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

We can have this too and it’s the plan of God that we see it.

So, I don’t know where you’re at in life and what your family status is but no matter what, God has great things for you.

With that being said, here are three thoughts as you wait for a parent’s dream to happen for you.

1st – Live out what you believe.

The greatest impact we can have on our kids is living out what we believe. This gives them an up close and personal example to follow.

Our kids follow what we do more than what we say. We also produce what we are. So we can see that living out what we believe is massive.

We do this through good and bad days. We show them we’re committed to Jesus for who He is and for what He’s done for us. This is our greatest message and when we live it, they will see it and feel it.

One man said, “Preach the gospel at all times and use words when necessary.”

Live out what you believe.

2nd – Have an open relationship with your kids.

No matter how old our kids are, they need a relationship with their parents. The idea of being done when they’re eighteen is a farce. They will need us more as adults than they did when they were growing up.

The emotional, spiritual, and verbal connection our kids need is vital for their success and it starts today.

So no matter how old, move toward having an open relationship with them. This means talking about real things and making time for that to happen.

Being intentional in supporting them and building a trust that facilitates vulnerability.

We as parents initiate this and we set the tone. We are the leaders, so it’s up to us to have this culture in our homes.

I encourage you to move forward with this. God will help you and your kids want it more than they’re sharing. They’re reaching for you more than you know.

3rd – Pray God’s will over them.

This is big because I said to pray God’s will, not yours. All of us have to give our kids to Jesus. Meaning, we let go and let God do what He wants for us, even if that is different that what we thought.

I’ll never forget a young man who felt the desire for ministry. He was stirred by the Holy Spirit but his parents got in his way. They insisted on what they wanted and before you know it, they helped lead their son away from the passion of God.

I see too many parents wanting their kids to be sports stars, entertainment stars, social media stars, and performing stars, that we miss leading them to shine like a star for Christ.

The only thing that lasts forever is our faith. So after all is said and done, living a life for God is what matters most!

We have to be ok with what God has for us. He loves them more than us and He knows more than us. His ways are above ours and that’s good.

Our part is to lead them to Jesus and let Jesus have them. That’s right. We are to let Jesus have them.

We’re called to train them and lead them in the gifts God has given them. This cultivates who they are and leads them in the way God has planned.

So when we pray God’s will over them, we’re praying God’s will not ours. We’re releasing our faith for His protection, His plan, and His path for them.

When this happens, we’re working in tandem with God and helping our kids be who they’re called to be.

I encourage you to pray God’s will over them daily. Believe Jesus to do a great thing in their lives.
