Happy Holidays from Heinsight Home Staging

It’s not how your nest is dressed or how your gifts are embellished or how your bows are tied.

It’s about being together and reveling in the true spirit of Christmas.

Pet Painting is Doggone Good

Is there a precious pet in your life that deserves to be immortalized with a portrait or painting?

This decorating job was complete when owner received a 40 x 40 inch canvas of his beloved dogs, Luster & Kayla, for one of his main rooms.

The love for his dogs became a front and center focal point plus tied in all the colors of his space.

That win was doggone good!

What A Card You Are

It’s that time of year again!

Holiday Card Season.

No worries, online card shops like Vistaprint, Shutterfly, or Logo Garden make it easy to create fun, festive cards.

Or you can use your own method with photo shop or scissors and glue.

I see opportunity to create fun cards all year, you just never know where and when opportunity will strike!

For example, these elves were spotted at the Brimfield Antique fair in July.  Theye were elves in a bowl instead of an elf on a shelf.

The other was a trip to NYC and a visit to the wharf to see The Intrepid. I used that picture, added santa hats (which we had used in last years card), pasted our chopper on a Patagonia catloque photo, then added the script from Shutterfly.

Decorating for the Holidaze

Better Homes & Garden is probably not coming to your house this year, so, relax, don’t get your tinsel in a tangle with decorating for the holidays.

Have fun with throwing your festive around.  The best thing about Christmas decor is more is more, you can’t over do it.

Kids of all ages can get involved making cards, pictures, tree decorations, cupcakes, ginger bread cookies, etc.  Their hard work will be that ornament you take out year after year.

It’s all about the memories you create being together.

Double Duty Room Makeover (plus headboard how-to)

I recently had clients who wanted to update there daughter’s flowery, feminine, girly bedroom into a part time soothing, hotel-like room for weekend guests plus continue to accommodate a college student who loves sports.

Our inspiration was driven by her interests.

The theme or point of view was “vintage sports”.  We found some antique sports accessories for on top of our Ikea unit.

We downloaded some pics of vintage field hockey teams and printed them onto card stock, cut them and pinned them into shadow boxes.

We will continue to shop for more sports accessories and add them for more layering and visual interest.

Side note: A professional removed the wall paper.  A few things I do not attempt are wall papering, electrical & plumbing.

Here’s what we did:

  • Painted the walls a “Smokey Topaz” by Behr in 2 coats to cover the imperfections left by sizing from the wall paper
  • Sew draperies -  Ralph Lauren paisley from a random bolt – $6.99 yard.  Bed throw was also sewn.
  • Stain pine armoir re – purposed form another room in the house – Min wax “Spice”. (College student uses this for her make up station – inside are lights, a mirror and hooks for hair dryer, etc.)
  • Assembled Ikea “Expidit” unit – easy (Swedes know how to make it fun)
  • Assemble 2 night stands -  hard (China knows how to make it complicated)
  • Assembled and mounted head board

HEAD BOARD How To:

  • plywood sheet 4 x 6 – 1″ thickness
  • batting – 2 rolls
  • vinyl  – 3 yards
  • copper studs
  • 2 wood blocks
  • Velcro

1. Cover plywood with batting & vinyl & staple (careful on the corners).

2. Measure equal distance for studs and hammer them into fabric/batting/plywood

3. Screw into wall, using molly’s

4. Cover holes with blocks using Velcro

Everyone is pleased with the results. My clients are excited to host guests for the weekend and  their daughter loves to come home and use this new, updated space!

Bold Bath Makeover

This make over was a snap and had far less components than the guest room makeover (Room Makeover – childhood bedroom to guest room in one weekend).

Here is the before:

Again, the supply list was paint & fabric & gently used accessories.

We used the persimmon paint previously used for the family & living room spaces (Update your kitchen), continuing the (Color Dragging) theory throughout.

IKEA provided the inspiration with its’ colorful cartoon faces on fabric, which were sewn into drapes & covered on a stretcher frame for art work.

I used the star & face from my Summer window (In U Window) display and repainted the towel rack a jet black to contrast colorful pops of color with towels purchased @ IKEA.

The bath rug was purchased @ IKEA.

The hardware purchased @ Anthropologie.

I hope this has inspired you to get going on some updating projects you may have been putting off.

Don’t delay – have fun and go for it!

In U Window

I have done hundreds of window displays in my career as a retail merchandiser.

Usually, a window’s mission is to sell or reflect the product in the store.  These windows are unique in the fact that they represent a space that is empty and up for rent.  The Landlords’ mission is to promote potential life in the space by showing it in use.  We use general seasonal themes in these 3.

Notice how props and backgrounds transition from one season to the next:

  • Orange & white stripes from Summer to Fall
  • Geese from Winter to Fall

Stay tuned for the window development to see what comes back again!
